Pool Chemical Essentials for Home Owners

A swimming pool is a great addition to any home and can provide hours of fun for family and friends. But, like most things, it needs to be properly maintained in order to ensure that it stays safe and clean. To do this, you will need to have the right chemicals on hand. Here is a list of essential pool chemicals that every homeowner should have.

Chlorine

Chlorine is one of the most important pool chemicals. It works by killing bacteria and other organisms that can make your pool unsafe or unhealthy. The amount of chlorine needed depends on the size of your pool and how much it gets used, but having some on hand at all times is essential. You can buy pre-packaged chlorine tablets or liquid chlorine, both of which are easy to use and store. You can find both of these in our Burleigh Heads store.

pH Balancer

The pH level of your pool water should be between 7.2 and 7.8; anything lower or higher than this can cause irritation or damage to swimmers’ skin or eyes. Keeping an eye on the pH level of your pool water is key—if it gets too low, you’ll need to add a pH balancer such as sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate. Both are relatively inexpensive and easy to use; just follow the instructions on the package for the best results.

Algaecide

Algae can quickly accumulate in pools if they are not properly maintained, making them unsafe for swimming and causing discolouration in the water. Having an algaecide on hand is a must; it works by killing off existing algae as well as preventing new growth from occurring. Be sure to choose an algaecide that is specifically designed for swimming pools; other types of algaecides may not be safe for swimmers’ health.

Maintaining a safe, clean swimming pool requires more than just regular cleaning—you also need to have the right chemicals on hand at all times in order to ensure that everything runs smoothly! Chlorine, pH balancer, and algaecide are some of the essential components needed when it comes to keeping your swimming pool healthy and usable throughout the summer months (and beyond!). With these three key ingredients in your arsenal, you’ll be able to keep your pool looking its best all season long!
